(A) New Territories

 

1. Kwai Tsing Theatre

The opening of Kwai Tsing Theatre in November 1999 is a milestone in the performing arts development of Hong Kong. Over the years, the Theatre has provided quality support to numerous local and visiting stage productions to the spectacular enjoyment of its audience.

The Theatre’s Auditorium is equipped to cater for all types of performances. The Black Box Theatre is the first of its kind among the LCSD performing arts facilities designed to meet the growing demand of small-scale and experimental productions. Other facilities to suit the needs of different arts activities include a Lecture Room, a Dance Studio and a Rehearsal Room while the Plaza offers the breathing space for the busy city life.

On top of its diversified facilities, Kwai Tsing Theatre prides itself on its prime location and excellent transport connection. It is an ideal venue for productions of different scales and will continue to play a key role for local cultural events.

2. North District Town Hall

North District Town Hall was officially opened in February 1982. Located at the centre of Sheung Shui adjacent to MTR station, the Town Hall comprises an Auditorium and two Function Rooms, which are suitable for organising arts and cultural performances, ceremonies, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, receptions and training classes.

3. Sha Tin Town Hall

The Sha Tin Town Hall is a convenient and well-equipped performance venue with integrated facilities, providing people with opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts, and has become a cultural landmark in the New Territories East. Whether it's for dance, drama, music activities, exhibitions, or conferences, the Town Hall offers a complete range of performance and exhibition facilities. It comprises three major facilities: an Auditorium, a Cultural Activities Hall, an Exhibition Gallery, and other minor and ancillary facilities. Since its opening in January 1987, the Town Hall has symbolised the department's commitment to the arts, its support for local arts and culture, and its dedication to enriching the community's cultural experience. The Town Hall has also worked closely with venue partners, arts groups, as well as local and overseas artists, presenting a wide array of cultural programs and establishing a reputation for program diversity.

4. Tai Po Civic Centre

Located at the town centre of Tai Po, the Tai Po Civic Centre has been providing the local community with diverse cultural services since its opening in September 1985. It is equipped with various facilities, including an auditorium, a black-box theatre and a function room, which individuals and organisations from different sectors may book for holding different types of cultural and leisure activities.

5. Tsuen Wan Town Hall

Tsuen Wan Town Hall was inaugurated in 1980. It marked the first performing venue in the New Territories. The Town Hall is well equipped with integrated facilities, including an Auditorium which is ideal for wide range of performances while a Cultural Activities Hall which is best for small stage shows and screenings. Besides, an Exhibition Gallery, a Lecture Room and a Conference Room are suitable for exhibitions, conferences, receptions, training classes, etc.

Tsuen Wan Town Hall is conveniently located with an efficient public transportation system, including the Tsuen Wan and the Tsuen Wan West MTR stations right next door. To cope with Tsuen Wan's fast growing pace, the Town Hall has been continuously enhancing its facilities and services for the visitors of all ages and the people with disabilities. 6. Tuen Mun Town Hall

The Tuen Mun Town Hall is a well-equipped cultural complex managed by the department. It houses the Auditorium, the Cultural Activities Hall, the Exhibition Gallery and other ancillary facilities. Conveniently located in the heart of Tuen Mun and effectively served by a motorway network connecting all parts of the district as well as Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan and Kowloon, the Town Hall is the centre for cultural activities and performing arts in northwest New Territories since its opening in May 1987. To cope with Tuen Mun's rapid development, the Town Hall has been continually enhancing its facilities, improving its services and dedicating itself to promote the cultural activities in the region, with a vision to bringing to the local community a vibrant cultural milieu.

7. Yuen Long Theatre

Yuen Long Theatre opened in May 2000. This modern performing arts venue has become a centre for the arts in the Northwest region of the New Territories.

The Theatre is situated at Yuen Long Tai Yuk Road in the vicinity of Yuen Long Park, Yuen Long Stadium and the Public Swimming Pool. The bamboo courtyard is a focus within the foyer, which creates an ambience of serenity and tranquillity.

The Theatre houses an auditorium, a dance studio, a rehearsal room, a lecture room, a function room and an exhibition corner, providing a good variety of facilities to meet the needs of venue users for a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities.

(B) Hong Kong & Kowloon

 

1. Hong Kong City Hall

Opened in 1962, the Hong Kong City Hall is the first multi-purpose cultural complex ever built for the community of Hong Kong. The City Hall, which was declared a monument in 2022, houses a concert hall, a theatre, an exhibition hall, a recital hall, an exhibition gallery and committee rooms, providing a variety of facilities to meet the needs of venue users for a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities.

2. Hong Kong Coliseum

Since its official opening on 27 April 1983, the Hong Kong Coliseum (HKC) has established itself as one of the most popular multipurpose indoor stadium in Hong Kong for international sports events, spectacular entertainment programmes, pop concerts and conventions.

Shaped like an inverted pyramid, the Coliseum is one of the most eye-catching landmarks on the waterfront of Hong Kong. The imposing design was constructed from rooftop downwards which creates a maximum column-free space, providing an unobstructed view of the arena. The piazza, embracing the Coliseum, is an ideal facility for holding exhibitions, fun fairs, receptions and other outdoor activities to complement the event held inside the arena.

Adjacent to MTR Hung Hom station, the venue is easily accessible by trains and other public transport. Since its opening, the popular Coliseum has played host to numerous local and international conferences, performances and events. The Coliseum is the pride of the Hong Kong people, effectively meeting their demand for a world class indoor stadium that caters for international and local events.

3. Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Opened in 1989, Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) situated near the Star Ferry Pier and the Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the prime cultural performance venues in Hong Kong.

The HKCC comprises an Auditoria Building, an Administration Building, a Restaurant Block and a Piazza. The three major performance venues in the Auditoria Building, namely the Concert Hall, the Grand Theatre and the Studio Theatre, cater for a wide range of music, dance and theatrical performances of both traditional and modern works. In addition to the main stages, the HKCC also provides venues for visual arts display, rooms for rehearsal and practice, as well as function rooms for meetings and seminars. Together with a performing arts shop and catering outlets, the HKCC offers a diverse range of services for our visitors and patrons. Located on Tsim Sha Tsui’s waterfront and boasting a stunning view of the Victoria Harbour, the HKCC Piazza makes an ideal venue for large-scale outdoor events.

4. Ko Shan Theatre

The Ko Shan Theatre (KST) was first opened in 1983 and designed as a semi-open air theatre. After an improvement project approved in 1994, the refurbished Ko Shan Theatre was re-opened in October 1996. The former amphitheatre was demolished and rebuilt with an air-conditioned foyer block housing rehearsal facilities, committee room and URBTIX box office.

Opened in October 2014, the 5-storey Ko Shan Theatre New Wing (NW) comprises auditorium, an exhibition gallery, and minor facilities. The design and layout of NW are dedicated for Cantonese opera performances, including spacious leg room between seats inside auditorium to facilitate easy access by the elderly, adequate space for costume trunks at the backstage. The auditorium at the New Wing together with the existing theatre will further enhance the Ko Shan Theatre’s function as a dedicated venue for Cantonese opera with the provision of ancillary facilities for performance, rehearsals and training by established and budding Cantonese opera artists.

In addition, the Cantonese Opera Education and Information Centre (COEIC) is located at 3/F, Ko Shan Theatre New Wing. The Centre employs advanced technology, including giant television screens and multimedia projectors, to present digitised and interactive Cantonese opera resources. The Centre is open, free to the public in hopes that more students, teachers, teenagers and young artists will gain hands-on exposure to Cantonese opera and in-depth knowledge of the art.

5. Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre

The Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, conveniently located in the heart of East Kowloon, has offered quality and diversified facilities for wide range of cultural activities and other events since its opening on 23 April 1987. With the mission of enriching the lives of the community by providing more professional services and advanced facilities, the Centre has undergone a major improvement in 2002. In early 2004, the Exhibition Hall was also converted to a multi-purpose Cultural Activities Hall to suit the needs of the community.

The Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre comprises the Theatre, the Cultural Activities Hall and ancillary facilities such as Lecture Room, Art Studios, Dance Practice Room and Music Practice Room. With its optimal location, newly renovated facilities and our professional and customer-focused services, it will make a good choice for organising events.

6. Queen Elizabeth Stadium

Opened in 1980, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium (the "Stadium") is Hong Kong's premier multi-purpose venue located in the heart of Wan Chai that provides the public with a chance to view and participate in sports, recreation and culture, all under the same roof.

Apart from an arena, the Stadium houses a reception lobby, a VIP lounge, a multi-purpose hall, function rooms, committee rooms, three squash courts and a table-tennis playing area.

7. Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre

The Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre is conveniently situated above the Sai Wan Ho MTR station and easily accessible by public transport. The Centre is well equipped with integrated facilities, including a Theatre, Cultural Activities Hall, Art Studio and Music Practice Rooms for a diverse range of activities. Since its opening in December 1990, the Centre has been providing spaces and facilities for people at Hong Kong East as well as all sectors of the community to stage cultural arts performances and community arts activities.

8. Sheung Wan Civic Centre

Sheung Wan Civic Centre (SWCC) is situated on the 4th to the 7th floors of the Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building. It is easily accessible and can be reached by various forms of public transport. Since its opening in December 1988, SWCC has offered diversified major and ancillary facilities for hire by the public to organise wide range of cultural activities and other events.

9. Yau Ma Tei Theatre

Yau Ma Tei Theatre provides an auditorium, a stage with an orchestra pit, a dressing room, a sound and lighting control room, a foyer and a box office. Together with the Function Rooms, it is suitable for holding Chinese opera performances and related activities.

Cantonese opera is an emblem of our local culture. For the preservation, promotion and development of Cantonese opera, the Yau Ma Tei Theatre and the Red Brick Building, both graded historic buildings, have been revitalised as a territory-wide performing arts venue named Yau Ma Tei Theatre. It was officially opened on 17 July 2012, designated for promoting Chinese opera activities, in particular Cantonese opera. The venue is equipped with performing and rehearsal facilities to encourage and support the budding and upcoming Cantonese opera troupes. Through the implementation of the Venue Partnership Scheme, it helps promote the venue as a popular training and performing venue as well as cradle for nurturing Cantonese opera talents.
