Citywide Excitement for the National Games – Community in Full Support

The 15th National Games (NG) were held last year across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. In anticipation of the country’s highest-level and largest national multi-sport event, Hong Kong organised a series of activities, including the “100-day countdown event for the 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG (Hong Kong)” and the “Sport For All Day” themed around the 15th NG in early August 2025. The Community Sports Section of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) gave its full support to both events, spicing up the atmosphere within the community and encouraging wider public participation.

100-Day Countdown to the NG – A Carnival of Celebration

To mark 100 days until the Games start, the “100-day countdown event for the 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG (Hong Kong)” was held on the afternoon of 2 August 2025 at the Hong Kong Velodrome. The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee Ka-chiu, the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zhou Ji, and the Vice President and Secretary-General of the Organising Committee of the 15th NG, Mr Wang Xi, were among the distinguished guests to witness this milestone moment. One of the highlights of the ceremony was the final push of the “100-Days to the National Games All Together for 1 Million KM Challenge”. Amid cheers from guests and citizens, participants from various sectors joined forces to walk, run and cycle the final 100 kilometres, achieving the one-million-kilometre goal.

The exciting atmosphere at the venue extended to an on-site carnival featuring various free activities, such as sports demonstrations, interactive sports e-games, and creative DIY workshops. A particularly popular attraction was the LCSD Community Sports Section’s “National Games Match-Up” game booth. Participants drew a random competition event hosted in Hong Kong and aimed sport-specific balls at the corresponding venue on a tic-tac-toe grid. This activity offered a fun, hands-on way for the public to learn about the various sports and venues of the 15th NG in Hong Kong. Successful challengers were rewarded with commemorative souvenirs.

Sport For All Day – United in Support of the NG

The annual Sport For All Day was held on 3 August 2025. While continuing its slogan “Stay Active, Healthy and Happy!” to encourage regular exercise, the event adopted the theme “Coalescing together for the National Games” to rally community support for the 15th NG. On the event day, the LCSD offered a wide range of free sports activities and opened most of its facilities to the public free of charge.

That same day, GO PARK Sai Sha hosted the 68th Festival of Sport – Sport For All Experience Day. The LCSD Community Sports Section once again set up the “National Games Match-Up” game booth, giving guests and citizens an opportunity to learn about the competitions staged in Hong Kong, share in the excitement of the 15th NG, 12th NGD and 9th NSOG, and show their support for Hong Kong athletes.
