Two nationally celebrated sports events: the 15th National Games (NG), together with the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympics Games (NSOG), were successfully concluded last year. Hong Kong fielded teams in both events and achieved outstanding results.
Organised by the General Administration of Sport of China once every four years, the National Games is the country’s highest-level and largest national multi-sport event. The 15th NG was jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao from 9 to 21 November last year. The Delegation of HKSAR was the largest in its history, comprising over 600 athletes and about 270 team officials and medical personnel taking part in 28 competition events. Together with the athletes and officials of 23 mass participation events, the total number of participants exceeded 1,800. Hong Kong athletes delivered exceptional performances, achieving a historic total of 19 medals, including nine gold, two silver, and eight bronze in sailing, cycling, tennis, swimming, rugby, triathlon and fencing. In the five mass participation (competition) events of badminton, karate, shuttlecock, football and bridge, they secured a total of 12 medals, including three gold, six silver and three bronze. In the dragon and lion dance mass participation (demonstration) events, they achieved one First Prize, two Second Prizes and one Third Prize. These accomplishments marked Hong Kong’s best-ever performance at the National Games. The athletes’ perseverance and excellence have made the people of Hong Kong immensely proud.

The NGD and NSOG were held following the 15th NG. Co-organised by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the General Administration of Sport of China, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG took place from 8 to 15 December last year. Hong Kong again sent its largest-ever delegation, with over 280 athletes supported by about 140 team officials and medical personnel. The delegation participated in 14 competition events and four mass participation events of the NGD, as well as seven events of the NSOG, achieving a historic total of 140 medals, including 51 gold, 49 silver, and 40 bronze. Details of Hong Kong teams’ performances in both Games, along with other relevant information about the delegations, are available on LCSD’s dedicated website:
