'Music for the Millions' Concerts

Untitled Document

The Music Office has organised the ‘Music for the Millions’ (MFM) Concerts since December 1977, which aims to familiarise students with Chinese and Western orchestral instruments and to stimulate their interest in fine music. During the school year, the Music Office Instructors’ Ensembles give regular MFM Concerts in primary and secondary schools with educational and entertaining programmes. Aside from the school tour, we also arrange MFM Concerts at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) performance venues, which allows students to enjoy the music in a professionally equipped concert hall.

The Music Office Instructors’ Chinese, Wind and String Orchestras regularly hold on-campus concerts for free, which aim to familiarise students with Chinese and Western orchestral instruments and to stimulate their interest in music. To enhance students’ sense of engagement and concert atmosphere, schools are recommended to teach students the MFM Theme Song in music lesson and encourage students to read the Music Guide and Introduction to Chinese and Western Musical Instruments on our website prior to the MFM Concert. If you are interested in arranging a MFM Concert at your school, please contact us by e-mail (amoiint@lcsd.gov.hk) or by phone (2158 6470).

Collaborating with LCSD Audience Building Office in the 2024/25 school year, the Music Office has organised a total of 8 MFM Concerts at different LCSD performance venues.

‘Music for the Millions’ Concert - Love music, Love the Earth

The basic concept of environmental protection comes from the love to our home "the Earth" and our earnest efforts to preserve the beauty of nature. It is common for composers from then and now to express their admiration for the beauty of nature in music with themes related to the seasonal climates, sounds of nature, and animals. The Music Office Instructors' Chinese Orchestra, Instructors' String Orchestra and Instructors' Wind Orchestra will give praise to the nature with a rendition of Chinese and Western ensemble music to arouse students' environmental awareness.
